Dreaming_OilPainting_by_HollyVanHart_20x16.jpg

"Dreaming", 20" x 16" x 2.4", Oil, Collection of the artist

People Series:
This is an ongoing series of paintings of special people in my life.

Description of "Dreaming" excerpted from my blog (hollyvanhart.blogspot.com):

This painting was inspired by a 40-year old photo of my husband Ike. Many of you may know that Ike LOVES looking at maps (which is related to another passion of his, traveling). When I saw an old photo of Ike with an atlas, it seemed like perfect material for a painting. In the photo Ike is lying on a carpet, with the atlas in front of him on the floor, and he looks as if he's dreaming of faraway places. In the painting I added the semi-abstract window on the right and named this piece "Dreaming". The window represents the future, the places he'll go and things he'll do. It's blank to show the universe of opportunities awaiting him . . . this young boy will dream about and create his own future.

First_Season_Watercolor_by_HollyVanHart_11x15.jpg

"First Season", 15"x11", Watercolor, Collection of the artist

People Series:
This is an ongoing series of paintings of special people in my life.

"First Season":
This is a painting of my younger son Erik in his first season on T-ball (the young kids version of baseball). He was very excited about participating in T-ball, and I thought this served well as a metaphor for a young boy excited about all that lies ahead.

SeaLionFamily1_4x6.jpg

"Sea Lions at Rest", 15" x 22", Watercolor, Original Available

Animal Series:
Like many people, I often find myself attributing human qualities to animals. I like to capture this "human-ness" in my paintings, typically with a group of animals and using vivid colors.

"Sea Lions at Rest":
I've always loved how groups of sea lions lie all over each other, basking in the sun and in each other's company. I tried to capture this warm feeling in this painting.

Animal Series:
Like many people, I often find myself attributing human qualities to animals. I like to capture this "human-ness" in my paintings, typically with a group of animals and using vivid colors.

"Rhino and Friend":
This rhino is a huge, intimidating creature, but his "friend" (an oxpecker bird who eats bugs from his skin) is comfortably perched on his face and has no reason for worry. I loved the contrast between the big threatening beast and his little unthreatened friend. This painting is inspired by a photograph taken in Africa by my good friend Veronique Gillard.

Seven_Pelicans_Watercolor_by_HollyVanHart_11x15.jpg

"Seven Pelicans", 11" x 15", Watercolor, SOLD

Animal Series:
Like many people, I often find myself attributing human qualities to animals. I like to capture this "human-ness" in my paintings, typically with a group of animals and using vivid colors.

"Seven Pelicans":
These pelicans landed on a small fishing boat on a beach in Mexico one morning. I was with my family and it was right after breakfast. The pelicans looked so contented, which was also how I felt, and I had to paint them. The real pelicans were brown.
