Our closest neighbor, Suzanne, keeps a huge garden of orchids. One April, she cut us a bunch of gorgeous cymbidium stems. I put them in a crystal vase and painted them in watercolor.

These gourds had such great shapes and colors, and when I tried to arrange them for a still-life painting, the long-necked green gourd toppled a bit and looked like it was kissing the large orange gourd. I painted them as they wanted to be remembered.

We have two large wisteria plants at our home, and every autumn the seed pods dry out and twist, and then the seeds pop out at high speed. It sounds like popcorn popping. I love this regenerative life force at work, and aimed to capture it in this painting. This paintings was created with watercolor on Yupo paper.
